As the moves for globalization heighten the need for cities and places to be more relevant and competitive, economic, cultural and social transformation are driven to conformity. The challenge to stay distinct, authentic and memorable lies within the people who experience it daily.
Preserving its Culture Through Stories
Behind a great city is a great people. Muntinlupeños narrate the city’s hundred-year journey – from when their town composed of hills, forests and vast farmlands gained recognition and independence in 1917 to the current verdant and thriving city interspersed with skyscrapers, subdivisions, factories and farms. The book recounts the story of Muntinlupa and its loyal residents, and their efforts to transform their beloved home from a once rustic town to one of the most progressive and attractive cities in the Philippines today.
Situated between the scenic Laguna Lake and rolling hillsides of Alabang, the City’s humble beginnings – a small thoroughfare and stopover in between Southern Luzon and Manila – is hard to imagine, given that Muntinlupa is one of the most highly urbanized cities in the country.
The future of a city not only depends on the culture of its people but on its celebration of its own unique identity.

A city reaching its centennial founding with no official document ever written about its history was what spurred Muntinlupa City Mayor Jaime Fresnedi to pursue the creation of a Muntinlupa history book. With the rise of migration in the last 40 years, Mayor Fresnedi wanted to write down the history, traditions, and culture of his beloved hometown and preserve it in the midst of the fast changing face of the City.
Our solution was to create a coffee table book that would not only contain a detailed 100-year history but will feature its diverse people and the city as an emerging investment hub in the Philippines. The result: “Muntinlupa Isang Daang Taon ng Lakas, Talino at Buhay (Muntinlupa 100 Years of Strength, Wisdom, and Life)” has become the City’s official history book which also showcases its competitive advantage in today’s disruptive business trends.
